Welcome to King John’s Castle in the heart of medieval Limerick City.
King John's Castle is located in the heart of Limerick City's Medieval Quarter.
We invite you to step inside Limerick City's most iconic landmark. Explore the interactive exhibitions, which bring to life over 800 years of local history.
Through the use of 21st century technology, 3D models, computer generated animations and much more, travel back in time to an era of soliders, sagas and sieges on the banks of the roaring River Shannon.
Explore the bustling courtyard and try your hand at a series of medieval games:
- Noughts and Crosses
- Horseshoe Throwing
- Medieval Seasaw
- Tug O War and more.
- Climb the ancient towers for dramatic views of Limerick City.

In the busy courtyard, you will discover a medieval campaign tent, a blacksmiths forge and scenes from a seventeenth century siege. The sights, scenes and sounds of King John’s Castle and its environs all combine to recreate the atmosphere of the era.
