Opera and Carols with Opera Workshop

Opera and Carols

LIVE AT THE CASTLE SUITE

Saturday December 6th 2025

Limerick’s own Opera Workshop invites audiences to step into the magic of Christmas with Opera & Carols, two enchanting concerts taking place in the  Castle Suite at King John’s Castle on Saturday, December 6th, 2025.

Supported by Limerick City and County Council, these festive performances promise an unforgettable blend of favourite carols, timeless songs, and exquisite opera highlights — all delivered with the warmth, humour, and elegance that have become Opera Workshop’s hallmark.

The performances take place in The Castle Suite, a new venue within King John’s Castle. Overlooking the castle courtyard and the River Shannon, this intimate and beautifully appointed space provides the perfect backdrop for an evening of exceptional live music and festive atmosphere.

Take a break from the holiday rush and let the beauty of live music, soaring voices, and festive spirit transport you. Each hour-long concert features an uplifting programme of music and storytelling performed by acclaimed Limerick artists, including sopranos Róisín Walsh, Tríona Walsh, mezzo-soprano Sarah-Ellen Murphy, and pianist Aoife Moran. The concerts will be presented by Shirley Keane, Opera Workshop’s founder and artistic director.

With two performances — 3pm (matinee) and 6pm (early evening)Opera & Carols offers the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family, soak in the historic beauty of King John’s Castle, and celebrate the spirit of the season through music.

“Opera Workshop has always delighted in bringing audiences together through beautiful music and a touch of festive fun,” says Shirley Keane. “King John’s Castle provides the perfect setting — it’s Limerick’s heart, full of history and magic, and the ideal backdrop for our Christmas celebration.”
